Judo Federation of Iceland
In March 2014 the Judospace Educational Institute team of Janine Johnson and Dr Mike Callan, worked with the Judo Federation of Iceland to improve their coach education.
At the invitation of JFI President Jóhann Másson, the Judospace team delivered a seminar with the JFI Coaching Commission led by experienced 4th dan and kata expert, Björn Halldórsson. The commission members were Yoshihiko Iura, Hans Rúnar Snorrason, and Jon Óðinn Waage. Hans Rúnar and Jon Óðinn travelled from Icelands northermost city Akureyri to lend their teaching and coaching expertise. Iura-sensei is known worldwide for his technical excellence, and was recently promoted to 8th dan by the Kodokan.
The Judo Federation of Iceland are one of the first sports to create the sports specific technical information to the Coaching structure developed by the Icelandic Olympic Committee. The Judospace team helped by drawing on the expertise of the Coaching Commission, and reporting their knowledge in a format that was suitable for the requirements of the Icelandic Olympic Committee.
They prepared a detailed report on the work for the President to take to the Committee.
Commission member Jon Óðinn Waage said, "I am really impressed by the work Judospace have done for us. I am very proud to be able to say I played a minor part in this work."
Dr Mike Callan said, "It it always a pleasure to work with such knowledgable members of the judo family, especially in such a friendly and interesting country as Iceland, developing judo coaching in support of their Olympic Committee."
