2012 Fighting Films Commonwealth Judo Championships, Cardiff
Judospace Ltd was commissioned by the Welsh Judo Association and CJC2012 Ltd to lead the delivery team for the The 2012 Fighting Films Commonwealth Judo Championships, which incorporated the Commonwealth Judo Association Congress, four Championships for Grand Masters, Cadets, Juniors and Seniors, as well as the 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp.
The Congress and Championships were held at the Donald Gordon Theatre at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay, Wales between 23 – 25 January 2012. It was the first sporting event ever to be held at this famous location.
There were 1257 participants from 27 nations, 2960 spectators, 195 volunteers, generating over £1 million spend in the local economy.
A large number of the global judo family watched the event live through two live streaming portals. A 23 minute highlight package of the event was broadcast on Sky Sports 3.
There was press coverage in 10 nations, coverage by 3 TV channels, and live viewing online achieved 378204 hits over the three days of competition.
The Pre-Games Training Camp, was a great success, allowing Welsh Athletes to train alongside Judo players from other Commonwealth Nations. Additionally, there was the opportunity to demonstrate to those Nations the expertise and facilities available in Wales.
